Redevelopment of Taupo Hospital

The front entrance at Taupo Hospital has been closed off to allow for stage 3 of redevelopment. Signage is in place to redirect all patients and visitors through the new Emergency Department.
The front office administrator has moved to an office in the reception area for radiology. Front office duties and the switchboard activities will be carried out from there for the next year while the old entranceway, former emergency department area, outpatients, physiotherapy and day stay unit are redeveloped.
Most outpatient clinics at Taupo Hospital are located in the former stand alone maternity building at Taupo Hospital during stage 3 of the redevelopment. Surgical and ear, nose and throat (ENT) clinics are still held in the main hospital.
The construction company handling stage 3 is Hawkins Construction Company, which last week set up perimeter fences around the old Emergency Department entrance at the hospital. Stage 3 of the hospital redevelopment will be carried out over two phases and is scheduled for completion at the start of 2015.
Meanwhile, stage 2 of the redevelopment is scheduled for completion early in March. Stages 1 and 2 have included ED, maternity, occupational therapy and the inpatient ward.  The Maternity Unit, Emergency and Radiology Departments were moved into their new premises in the redeveloped Taupo Hospital in mid-September. Once the hospital redevelopment is complete, the former maternity building that is currently housing outpatient services will be revamped and occupied by community mental health staff who will relocate from their Gascoigne St offices.
