Anaesthetic Registrars
Rotorua Hospital Anaesthetic Department is accredited by ANZCA for one year of anaesthetic training. We presently have position for two registrars, with the training well suited for entry level or basic trainees with no previous experience in Anaesthesia. It also offers a great opportunity to final year trainees who have completed all advanced modules and the final exams for a provisional fellowship.
Rotorua hospital is part of the Midland Training Program, which consists of the Departments of Anaesthesia of Rotorua, Tauranga and Waikato. After completion of one year of training, registrars will usually move to Waikato for completion of advanced modules. An application for an Anaesthetic Registrar position at Rotorua Hospital is also an application to the Midland Training Rotation. As such the shortlisting and interview process is conducted in conjunction with Supervisors of Training from Waikato and Tauranga Hospitals.
As a trainee, there is minimal service requirement, so training is geared towards learning and gaining as much clinical experience as possible. Each trainee works one long day a week with supervision. There are no on calls or weekend work requirements.
We offer the opportunity for final year registrars to consolidate their training and include them on the specialists on call roster. This cultivates the transition to consultant responsibility and function in a safe, supported environment.
