Social Workers

Social Work Services are available at both Rotorua and Taupo Hospitals.

Social workers can assist individuals and their whanau to deal with the impact of changes in their health or social situation and to access all the support and information they may require.

Social work services are provided in the hospital, the home and in the community.

The main areas of assistance that social workers can provide are:

  • providing information and helping families access resources in the hospital and in the community.
  • providing support and counselling.
  • advocating for and negotiating on behalf of individuals, families and whanau.
  • helping with planning for discharge including referrals to other agencies in the community.

Issues that may arise when in hospital and with which your Social Workers can assist are:

  • grief / loss
  • carer stress
  • coping strategies
  • accommodation
  • transport
  • depression
  • legal issues eg: power of attorney
  • family violence
  • finances
  • health, sickness and disability issues
