Ultrasound examination uses sound waves to visualize organs within the abdoment and pelvis, as well as other soft tissue structures.  a transductor is moved across the skin delivering and receiving sound waves to produce an image on a screen.

This examination uses no radiation, is not painful and involves the use of gel.

Patient Preparation

Abdomen:  Nil by mouth 6 hours prior to examination.

Pelvis:  A full bladder is essential.

There is no post care required for the majority of examinations.
