The Respiratory Service provides specialist advice and equipment for the clinical management of respiratory conditions.

Services include:

  • Inpatient education
  • Post discharge follow up by clinic appointment, home visit or phone
  • Home oxygen services
  • Pulmonary Rehabilitation course

    This is provided on a one-on-one basis and includes management strategies, medications and action plans.

    Home oxygen

    Oxygen is usually prescribed by the physicians. It is provided by an oxygen concentrator machine which draws in and concentrates room air to provide medical oxygen.

    Pulmonary Rehabilitation


    The course is run by the Respiratory Clinical Nurse Specialists and the Physiotherapists. In Rotorua classes are held in the Physiotherapy Department on Monday 1pm – 2pm and Thursday 1pm – 3pm.

    An education session follows the hour-long exercise class on a Thursday.
