Lakes DHB is well into the second day of delivering clinical services without the use of its computer network.

A fire in a computer server room on the Rotorua Hospital site early Monday caused a major outage which has affected the DHB's computer and a raft of patient management systems, plus email and Internet.

Experts have been on site assessing how long it will take to restore the system.

There is hope some systems may be up and running within the next two days for a limited number of clinical stations.

Incident Controller Gary Lees, who is also the Director of Nursing and Midwifery says all clinical areas are working well with patients being assessed and treated in a timely manner. He says the manual, paper based systems put in place are working well.

Eight patients had their elective surgery scheduled for today cancelled. Some outpatient clinic appointments have also been postponed, with the patients being contacted.Tomorrow's scheduled surgeries are proceeding.

Gary Lees says those patients with scheduled appointments or procedures at Rotorua or Taupo Hospitals who have NOT been contacted are asked to come to hospital for their appointment.

People are also asked to remember to keep the ED for emergencies and to visit their family doctor or GP for minor health issues or to contact Healthline 0800 611 116.
