NZNO nurses, healthcare assistants and some midwives plan to strike from 7am to 11pm on Tuesday 2 September and 7am to 11pm on Thursday 4 September. National Public Health Service — Northern Region is responsible for preventing illness and disease, protecting population health, and promoting wellbeing and hauora.
It works alongside the communities of Northland, Waitematā, Auckland, and Counties Manukau to achieve pae ora.
Tamariki health and screening services offered in Northland include the B4 School Checks, Tamariki Ear Clinics, Northland Youth Health Services, and the Ngā Tātai Ihorangi Immunisation services.

National Public Health Service - Northern Region's goal is to reduce smoking uptake/initiation amongst children/youth in Te Tai Tokerau and encourage smokefree public areas.
The service is responsible for enforcing the Smokefree Environments and Regulated Products Act 1990. This prohibits the sale of tobacco and vaping products to minors, restricts the marketing of tobacco and vaping products, and requires most indoor public places to be smokefree and vapefree.

Smokefree complaints
Use this form to complain about a tobacco or vaping breach in Te Tai Tokerau:
smoking and vaping in all hospitality venues and certain public places (such as licensed premises)
smoking and vaping in schools, kura and early childhood centres
the sale of toy tobacco and vape products
the sale and supply of tobacco, herbal and vaping products to young adults
the retail display of tobacco and vaping products
the advertising of tobacco and vaping products.
Our officers also:
monitor premises such as retailers, licensed premises, schools and early childhood centres for compliance with the legislation
visit tobacco and vape retailers to educate them about the smokefree legislation.

The buildings and grounds of schools and early childhood centres
Indoor areas of licensed premises and workplaces – ‘licensed premises’ includes bars, restaurants, cafés, sports clubs and casinos, ‘workplaces’ offices, factories, warehouses, work canteens and ‘smoko’ rooms.
The National Public Health Service – Northern Region is responsible for:
monitoring environmental health and notifiable diseases
preventing the spread of disease, including at our international borders
promoting healthy eating and physical activity
promoting safe environments and good health practices in early childhood centres and kōhanga reo
some health services for children, such as screening, B4 School Checks, and tuberculosis (BCG) immunisation for at risk children aged under 5 years old
reviewing public health regulations and inquiring into applications for alcohol licences and the development of Local Alcohol Plans
enforcing elements of the Smokefree Environments and Regulated Products Act 1990
guiding and enforcing public health plans, strategies and legislation.
