The Endoscopy Service for Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora South Canterbury is provided by general surgeons and a gastroenterologist who work on site at Timaru Hospital. The service is for people living in South Canterbury.

Procedures include the placement of stents, dilatation and PEG (feeding) tubes, and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP).
Guidelines for performing endoscopic procedures are based on the Endoscopy Guidance Group for New Zealand (EGGNZ) standards. Our surgeons prioritise referred patients into 3 categories:
General practitioners can refer new patients and those requiring regular surveillance for bowel polyps, Barrett's oesophagus and family syndromes under the care of the NZ Familial Gastrointestinal Cancer Service.
