ASMS senior doctors’ 48-hour strike planned for 23 and 24 September 2025
Senior doctors and dentists at Health NZ public hospitals and health services plan to strike for 48 hours on Tuesday 23 September and Wednesday 24 September.
Emergency departments will be open for emergencies only.
GPs, after-hours and urgent care clinics, and other community health providers are not affected by the strikes and will continue to operate as normal.
We provide specialist care for a wide range of respiratory conditions such as:
chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
asthma
lung cancer
cystic fibrosis
sleep apnoea.
We provide:
outpatient clinics
lung function tests
sleep tests
inpatient care when needed.
We work together with community providers to support people with respiratory illness.
Sleep health services
We diagnose and treat people with sleep disordered breathing and other sleep related conditions. Sleep health services has strong community links with general practices who can provide screening for some conditions.
If you have had a successful trial of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy through Christchurch Hospital sleep health services you may need to use a CPAP device long term.
A team of clinical nurse specialists, Māori health workers and others provide expert care (both inpatient and outpatient) to people with a wide range of respiratory and cardiac conditions.
These include:
lung cancer
cystic fibrosis
sleep disorders
heart failure/PAH
infectious diseases.
The team can also see people who need:
cardiac rehabilitation
tuberculosis supervised treatment or directly observed therapy
Māori health support
help with respiratory equipment, for example patients who are discharged from hospital with home oxygen.
