Services we provide

Rheumatology

Our rheumatology service provides a range of services for people with diseases in the muscles, bones or joints (musculoskeletal disease). These diseases fall into several broad groups:

  • inflammatory conditions that cause pain and inflammation in the joints and connective tissues (rheumatic disease), including autoimmune conditions
  • degenerative musculoskeletal disease
  • regional musculoskeletal syndromes
  • metabolic bone disease and muscle disorders
  • non-specific pain in multiple joints (polyarthraligia), widespread (diffuse) and regional pain disorders.

We give the highest priority to people with inflammatory rheumatic disease and autoimmune conditions. We may not be able to see people with other conditions when there is limited capacity.

Immunology and allergy

Our immunology service deals mainly with:

  • severe allergy including anaphylaxis, genetic tendency to develop allergic disease (atopy) and drug reactions
  • an immune system that does not work as it should (primary immune deficiency)
  • connective tissue conditions including systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), scleroderma, systemic vasculitis and other rare conditions.
