District Nursing

Nursing services in the community

District nurses provide specialised care/treatment for patients and families in their own homes, if housebound due to their medical condition, or in a clinic run by district nurses.

The district nurses will co-ordinate patient care, from admission to the service, until they transfer care back to the GP practice.

District nurses work closely with the patient and their health team to ensure the patient receives the best possible care.

The services provided include:

  • Specialist wound care (at home and in the wound clinic at Rotorua Hospital)
  • Intravenous therapy
  • Specialist services - Ostomy, Continence
  • Short term nursing services following an acute injury - home help or personal care are not included in this ACC contract.
  • District Nursing’s hours of service are 8am - 4.30pm, Monday to Sunday.
